Collection for homeless pets. Last Saturday, October 3rd, we celebrated a Blessing of the Animals. To help homeless pets, we will be collecting donated items during the month of October. Please bring some pet food (dry or canned), paper towels, bedding (towels, blankets), etc. when you come to church.Look for the "For Homeless Pets" donation bin in the lobby area.

Westfield Food Pantry. Please continue to contribute non-perishable food, personal grooming and baby items. They can be left in the drop-off box in entryway of the church on Sunday mornings or any other convenient time. The Food Bank also accepts checks made out to: Food Bank of Westfield. You can send your check to the church or drop in the offering plate on Sunday.

The "Books and Beyond" selection this month is "Caleb’s Crossing" by Geraldine Brooks. The accompanying movie is yet to be made. We meet Sunday, October 18th, at the Bottorffs, 514 Grove St., Westfield, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. The story involves the interaction between the Puritan settlers on Martha’s Vineyard and the native Wampanoag Indians in the 1600’s. The narrator of the story, Bethia, tells among other adventures how Caleb, a young Wampanoag brave comes to graduate from Harvard University.

Young Disciples volunteers needed. Young Disciples provides our children (ages 3 and up) with an alternative worship time during the sermon. It is designed to be more age-appropriate and interactive.We generally share the same weekly scriptures and a related message, songs and prayers before returning to the Sanctuary for the close of worship.On Communion Sundays we return in time to take part in the service of Communion.Volunteer adults are needed to help each week.Please contact Marcee Rogers (mmrogers93@gmail.com ).

Blood Drive, October 19. Come and donate blood on Monday, October 19 from 2-9 PM at the NJ Blood Center, 2279 South Avenue in Scotch Plains. Sign-up in the narthex for blood donations or call Greg Wilson to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome on the 19th.

Trunk-or-Treat returns to FUMC on Sunday, October 25 from 1-3 p.m. This is a fun and safe trick-or-treating opportunity for our kids. We need volunteers to supply decorated trunks or activity stations and pass out treats. Also, a donation box will be set up in the Narthex for treat donations (candy, stickers, pencils, etc). If you are interested in participating as a trunk host, please contact Tamela Beene via email at tamelabeene@aol.com.

Adult Faith Development Class

"Soul Keeping A new Adult Faith Development Experience, Sundays at 9 AM in Room 105. Please join us beginning on Sunday, October 18th and running through November 22nd for a 6 week exploration of our soul. This DVD-based course by John Ortberg is entitled, "Soul Keeping". We will be taking a story-filled approach to the subject of what our soul is and how we can care for it in a world which often forgets it exists in each one of us, waiting to be nurtured.
