Yoga as a Spiritual Practice

Most of us think of yoga as done by physically flexible people unlike ourselves who can hold postures impossible for us.However yoga offers much more than the physicality it is noted for.

Yoga is also a spiritual discipline with characteristics quite compatible with Christian understandings of embracing God’s Spirit. It also offers a healing component for our bodies which has been almost forgotten by western Christianity.

You are invited to join a six-week exploration during Lent of yoga and Christian spiritual disciplines--comparing and contrasting them.

Beginning Sunday Feb. 22nd from 9:00 to 9:50 AM in the Social Hall, Dominique Trott, certified yoga instructor, and Rev. Dan Bottorff will lead an exploration of yoga and Christian spiritual disciplines. Along with presentations and discussion, time for breathing exercises and gentle yoga postures will be offered.

Some persons may wish only to discuss and observe. Others may come in casual clothes and experience the integration of mind, body, and spirit while practicing yoga.Bring a yoga mat, if you have one. Some extras will be available.Casual dress for yoga is quite acceptable at worship which follows at 10:00 AM.There is no charge.Donations accepted.
