Through the
Education Ministries at FUMC we strive to deepen our relationships with one
another, with our community, and with God. To these ends, our efforts
provide many opportunities for service as well as spiritual and social growth. We
offer church school for all ages, vacation bible school, confirmation, and
new member’s classes. We encourage member participation in worship
services as readers, ushers, musicians, and acolytes. We provide many
opportunities for fellowship, including United Methodist Youth Fellowship
for Junior and Senior High youth and celebrations of Rally Day, Shrove
Tuesday, Easter, and a spring Strawberry Festival. We support RISE (a yearly
mission trip to Steuben County New York at which youth and adults provide
home repair services to those in need), Boy Scout Troop 78, a scholarship
program, and a special Advent opportunity to help AIDS/HIV affected families
in our area.
As a very active church community,
we are always mindful of the safety and well-being of all our
members and guests. We have developed a Safe Sanctuary
policy which explains the measures we take, as a matter of course,
to care for us all. Our Safe Sanctuary policy may be

are songs (led by Alison Power), readings (led by older youth),
special offerings to support various missions, and prayer. Teachers
then lead their students to their age level Sunday School classes.

opportunities for children at FUMC, please consult the

end of that service.

Adult Ministries
New Members Classes New member classes are held as a ‘critical mass’ of
people show interest in joining the church by profession of their new-found
faith, or by transferring their membership from other places. Information
and orientation sessions are usually held in the spring and fall of the
year. Anyone interested is encouraged to ask the pastor after joining us for
worship or by calling the church office.
BIBLE STUDY Ongoing Bible study classes are
currently available on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m., on Tuesday mornings at
9:30 a.m., and on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 a.m. Other study groups are often
formed around interests that arise throughout the year, as people bring
their concerns, questions, dreams, and visions.
-
For the fall of 2006, the Sunday morning
class meets in room 105. The resource The Bible Jesus Read
by Philip Yancey will be the focus of this eight week study. A look
at the Old Testament to discern what God has in mind for today and
how that plan has evolved will be examined in texts from Genesis,
Deuteronomy, Job, Psalms and the Prophets. Everyone is invited on a
regular or "as available" basis.
